The Feast of Trimalchio.

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

This film by AES+F was one of the highlights of my visit to the Sydney Biennale 2010. It was fucking magical. Imagine a massive warehouse with an outfitted circular 20 foot screen surrounding a few clustered chez lounge seats. On each third of the infinity screen played a different perspective of the film. The colours, the movement, the music all harmoniously came together leaving me in a trance state for some time. The film was created using a stop motion technique where the subjects were meticulously choreographed to perform specific movements while maintaining a certain posture often associated with classical sculpture. The images were then woven together with a morphing effect (There’s a tool on After Effects that does this) to achieve a certain delayed movement that became the most intriguing technical aspect for me. Here are some stills from the film:

Power.

Kanye’s new video for ‘Power’ just released last night and it is epic. I had to watch it five times because there was just so much going on that it was impossible to absorb it all the first time. It was directed by Marco Brambilla but I couldn’t help but be reminded of the work by AES+F whose work I had just recently seen at the Sydney Biennale 2010.

Saw the first version of this last year and was just captivated by the suspense. Will she finish it or will she chuck? Who knows? Fly16×9 is ‘the first fully digital fashion magazine where music meets art meets video’.

MARIA FRANCESCA PEPE AUTUMN/WINTER 2010.

03 Aug 2010 - no responses.

Initially, it was the treatment and style of the lookbook that caught my attention, but then I noticed the awesome pieces that could definitely be unisex although merchandised on a woman. Having studied a little bit about jewellery/accessory design, I have great respect for their craft as it takes a lot of skill and craftmanship to do what they do. Check out more of the collection here.

Back in Business. Sorta.

24 Jul 2010 - no responses.

I know I know, the site has been not working for the past few and I haven’t done any recent posts: sorry.
Actually, I take that back, I don’t need to be apologizing for not posting on my OWN blog. But I’d really appreciate it if you’d check it out everyday and clicked on the ads on the right about 5 times a day ;) haha.

The gist of things:
It has been a really busy past couple of weeks for me, a really nomadic past couple of weeks. Following my sad goodbye to my second home, Perth, I left for the east coast city Sydney where I spent many days wandering their Toronto-like streets. Then I met up with some friends and got ourselves a campervan for roadtrip version 2.0 along the gold coast – an amazing adventure at that. Then ended up in Brisbane for one night of partying our faces off which was followed by a short flight down to Melbourne, a long-awaited arrival following its wide acclaim by friends who have reveled in its sheer awesomeness. After revisiting some good old friends and a few cold beers I was off for Darwin where I spent 14 hours at the airport often accommodating the tacky carpeted floor with my luggage surrounding me as I slept as a make-shift fort. Then I was off to Singapore where I spent yet another 12 hours awaiting my connecting flight to the Thrilla Manila (McDonalds in Singapore is amazing). And now I sit in a lofty bed just outside of Makati in the unforgiving heat that an air conditioner cannot even defeat, at my cousin’s house as I steal internet from the neighbours shhh. Adventure is my middle name and think I have met my life’s calling: to be a professional nomad.

I am going to upload photos soon, stay tuned.

Photo Journal: A Thursday.

Imogen making me a list of places to see in Melbourne at Ezra Pound.

Went on an adventure with Imogen on Thursday around the city. She might just be the ultimate tour guide for all things cool and interesting around Perth and Melbourne. She made me an in-depth list of all the places I needed to visit while in Perth and so far all of them have been great experiences. I am actually in one of those places right now: Zekka, probably my favourite spot.

White rabbit extravaganza.

One of the places we visited that day was Ezra Pound, a cool, stark and mysterious bar hidden in a graffiti infested alleyway. Other great places we visited: 399 Bar, Tiger Tiger.
